The
Scene
Not so much a theater, but a restaurant that shows movies. You
sit at tables (four tiers have been set up to provide clear
views) and are served food and drink by a seasoned and friendly
waitstaff. There is no obligation to order anything, though the
theater does have a full menu of gourmet food (some dishes are
better than others) and a modest beer and wine list.
The Movies
An unflinching dedication to independent and art-house film.
Woody Allen is about as mass-market as it gets.
The Perks
Home to the Florida Film Festival, a 10-day independent film-o-rama
that screens nearly 100 films, as well as several smaller
showcases and events, like fundraisers. A particularly popular
event is the theater's autumnal Southeast Asian Film Festival, a
weekend-long celebration of Asian visions and cultures. |

The
Scene
Spacious, art-deco surroundings, with a large neon-colored lobby
separated into two by a huge concession stand. The place
contains two wings, each with its share of large and mid-sized
auditoriums. Stadium seating all around and Dolby digital sound.
The Movies
Primarily new releases, but it was also the only place in town
you could catch acclaimed artier fare like Mike Hodge's
"Croupier" and Mike Leigh's "Topsy Turvy."
The Perks
It's Winter Park Village location, one of the area's hottest new
shopping and dining districts, makes after-movie plans a snap.
Also, it's become O-Town's most-exciting and energized place to
catch sneak previews and promotional screenings. |
